Four people have been arrested by the police for running fake websites of many well-known brands and duping businessmen in the name of getting franchisees and dealerships. Police gave this information on Sunday. Police said that the accused Vinay Vikram Singh (37), Vikas Mistry (24), Vinod Kumar (27) and Santosh Kumar (32) were arrested during raids in Delhi, Bihar, Haryana and Punjab.
In this regard, a senior police officer said that the accused were running fake websites of reputed brands like Amul, Patanjali and Haldiram by getting them registered with domains with similar names. The official said that during the police investigation, it was found that this gang was involved in about 126 cyber frauds in 16 states and so far it has duped people of more than one crore 10 lakh rupees. Police have seized 17 bank accounts of gang members.
A woman who was a victim of fraud had lodged a complaint with the police
According to the police, this matter came to light when a victim of fraud of this gang lodged a complaint with the police. The victim told in her complaint that she wanted to run Haldiram outlet. When she started searching online for this, she came across a website which was claimed to be Haldiram’s site and this website offered the woman a franchise and dealership.
A large number of people in the country are falling prey to fraud by falling prey to fake websites.
Police said that in the name of giving franchise and dealership, during two months, an amount of more than Rs 11.74 lakh was cheated from the woman in the name of different payments. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Cyber) Anyesh Roy said that during investigation, it was found that a large number of fake websites are running in the name of Haldiram and all these websites are claiming to give Haldiram’s franchise by taking huge amount. At the same time, he said that it has also come to the fore that a large number of people in the country are becoming victims of fraud by falling under the guise of such fake websites.
