Home Minister Amit Shah said in a meeting with the Chief Ministers regarding the cyclone ‘Yas’ that all these states coming under the cyclone should ensure power backup. The meeting was attended by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy, Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik and LG DK Joshi of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The area of heavy pressure created in the Bay of Bengal has turned into a cyclonic storm and it is expected to reach the coastal areas of Odisha and West Bengal on 26 May.

Home Minister Amit Shah told the Chief Ministers, “There are excessive oxygen plants on the east coast due to the storm, which are supplying them all over the country.” There are about 24 oxygen plants on the east coast, whose safety should be ensured. Keep a buffer stock of oxygen and corona medicines. ” The Home Minister said that the Meteorological Department is giving the right and accurate instruction, so keep a constant dialogue with him.

He said in the meeting, “As soon as the cyclone is weakened, restoration of water and electricity should be ensured at the earliest. People should be evacuated from the lower coastal areas and the entire area should be evacuated as soon as possible. Also, these people should be evacuated to a safe place. ”

In view of the ‘Yas’ cyclone, rescue and relief teams are being sent from one place to another and defense planes and naval ships have also been asked to be kept alert.

“Yas to turn into a severe cyclonic storm by Tuesday”

Deputy Director of the Regional Meteorological Center of Kolkata, Sanjib Bandopadhyay said that ‘Yas’ is expected to pass through the Odisha-West Bengal coasts between Paradip and Sagar islands on 26 May afternoon. This will be a very severe cyclonic storm, with winds blowing at a speed of 155–165 km per hour. According to the Meteorological Department, this area of pressure was between Paradip in Odisha and Digha in West Bengal on Monday morning and it is expected to move north-northwest and turn into a severe cyclonic storm by Tuesday.

Earlier on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed the preparedness of the states and central government agencies in a high level meeting to deal with the ‘Yas’ storm and instructed those involved in maritime activities to be taken to safer places in time. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said in a statement that PA Modi asked the officials to work in close coordination with the states, so that people from the high risk areas can be evacuated safely.
