There is a huge shortage of medical oxygen in hospitals due to the outbreak of Coronavir. Meanwhile, the Navy and the Indian Air Force (IAF) are intensifying their operations to carry cryogenic oxygen containers abroad and in the country to assist civilian administrations in combating the second wave of the Kovid epidemic. It is being told that five Indian warships will arrive in India from Kuwait, Qatar and Singapore from 9 to 11 May along with nine containers filled with medical oxygen, 2300 oxygen cylinders, 57 concentrators and other supplies.
The five warships will follow the stealth frigate INS Talwar from Bahrain to New Mangalore in Karnataka on Wednesday, which will hold 54 tonnes of liquid medical oxygen in two large cryogenic containers. “Loading of oxygen containers and other medical supplies on three other warships from Doha (Kuwait) and Mura (Brunei) is also planned under Operation Samundra Setu-2 launched by the Navy,” an official said.
Indian Air Force’s havoc flights
Similarly, Indian Air Force C-17 Globemaster aircraft have made 59 international flights to airlift 72 empty cryogenic oxygen storage containers and 1252 oxygen cylinders with a total capacity of 1233 MT. These flights have been made from Singapore, Dubai, Bangkok, UK, Germany, Belgium and Australia. In addition, the C-17 and IL-76 aircraft are soon tasked to airlift cryogenic oxygen containers, oxygen generators and ventilators, an official said.
The Indian Air Force has conducted 400 flights within the country, of which 252 oxygen tankers of a total of 4,904 MT capacity have been airlifted in 351 flights till Friday. These include Jamnagar, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Panagarh, Indore, Ranchi, Agra, Jodhpur, Begumpet, Bhubaneswar, Pune, Surat, Raipur, Udaipur, Mumbai, Lucknow, Nagpur, Gwalior, Vijayawada, Baroda, Dimapur and Hindon.

After a record 4,14,188 new cases of Kovid-19 in the country, the total cases of corona infection increased to 2,14,91,598, while more than 36 lakh patients are still in the grip of the disease. According to the Union Health Ministry, after the death of 3,915 people in the last 24 hours, the death toll has risen to 2,34,083. The number of under-treated patients has increased to 36,45,164 among the ever increasing cases which is 16.96 percent of the total cases of infection while the national rate of recovery from Kovid-19 in the country has come down to 81.95 percent. The total number of people recovering from the disease has risen to 1,76,12,351 while the death rate of the disease has been recorded at 1.09 percent.
