Banner placed near the crematorium.
Coronavirus has caused havoc. Many lives have been destroyed by this deadly virus. Meanwhile, a picture of Karnataka’s capital Benglu has gone viral, which attracted everyone’s attention. Actually, a banner was put up by a local BJP leader near a crematorium in the city. The relatives who came to perform the last rites of the body with this banner were enraged and the matter went viral on social media.
The hoarding claimed that free food and refreshments have been arranged for the people attending the funeral under the guidance of Yelahanka MLA SR Vishwanath at the Giddenalli crematorium. Apart from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa and Revenue Minister R Ashoka, photo of Vishwanath and local leaders were put on the banner.
‘Don’t promote during Corona’
However, Vishwanath, president of the Bengaluru Development Authority and former political secretary of the CM, reacted to the banner and said that it has been removed with immediate effect. He later issued a video statement apologizing for the incident, stating that he was not aware of the banners being installed.
He said, ‘I told the authorities to provide drinking water and other facilities to the people coming to the crematorium as it was located in a remote area. Somebody has put it by mistake. I am not aware in this regard. It is inappropriate to put photos of PM, CM, Mary and others. Vishwanath said that on the basis of the instructions of the local cadre, the banner was removed soon. He appealed, ‘At this time we should focus on serving the people, not campaigning.’
