The Congress on Friday used CPI leader Anni Raja’s statement against the police to target the Left Front government in Kerala, alleging that while atrocities against women are on the rise, the government under Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The police department has become a mute spectator.

Attacking the government over the issue, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly V D Satheshan claimed that the police was not taking action on the complaints lodged by women.
Speaking at a press conference in Kozhikode, he said, “The police have become a mute spectator when the harassment of women is increasing in the state. Satishan said the allegations leveled by Anni Raja were serious and appealed to the Chief Minister to look into it.
Senior Congress leaders K Muraleedharan and Ramesh Chennithala also targeted the government over the issue, he said. Chennithala said that the police in Kerala has become the ‘sedition police’.
