The Congress has also made its stand clear regarding the meeting with the political parties of Jammu and Kashmir called by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 24. Congress has decided to attend this meeting. Senior Congress leader and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, former deputy CM Tara Chand and state party president Ghulam Ahmed Mir will attend the meeting.
Ghulam Ahmed Mir told ANI that the invitation to the meeting has been sent without any agenda. Ghulam Nabi Azad being the former Chief Minister, Tara Chand being the Deputy CM and I being the State Party President will attend the meeting.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Congress’s Jammu and Kashmir Affairs Core Group held a meeting to take a decision on the matter. Former Home Minister P Chidambaram, senior Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad, Karan Singh, state in-charge Rajni Patil and Ghulam Ahmed Mir had joined the Congress group led by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. It was decided in the meeting that Congress would attend this meeting to be held on June 24.
Farooq Abdullah announced to attend the meeting
Earlier on Tuesday, Gupkar People’s Manifesto Alliance (PAGD) President Farooq Abdullah said that the alliance will attend the all-party meeting called by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The announcement was made after a meeting of PAGD leaders convened at Abdullah’s Gupkar Road residence to discuss the Centre’s invitation. Leaders of constituent parties, including Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti and Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader MY Tarigami, reached National Conference president Abdullah’s residence at 11 am. The political parties of Jammu and Kashmir met and discussed for the last two days.
During the meeting, Farooq Abdullah said, “Dawatnama has come from PM Modi’s side and we are going to go there. Mehbooba ji, Mohammad Tarigami sahib and I will attend PM Modi’s meeting. Hopefully we will put our agenda in front of the Prime Minister and the Home Minister there.” Regarding the meeting with the Prime Minister, Abdullah further said, “All of us who have been called, we are going. We’ll all talk. Our purpose is known to all. There you can talk about everything. No agenda has been set from their side.”
