The government says that all the private colleges teaching this course did not meet the required standards. Many colleges have only two rooms in the name of infrastructure for agriculture. Some don’t even have enough staff.
Punjab (Punjab) of Bhagwant Mann government is going to review the decision of extension given to Agriculture College. During the previous Congress government, extensions were given to all private colleges. All these colleges give graduation degree to the students studying agriculture. According to the information received, without following the norms laid down in the Punjab State Council for Agricultural Education Act 2017.AgricultureThe decision of CM Charanjit Singh Channi will be reviewed before extending the extension to private colleges offering graduation degree. Channi had allowed such colleges to be extended for one more year before the elections. However, by the time the file reached the Agriculture Department for further action, the model code of conduct had come into force in the state. The department never notified the extension permission on the same contention.
On this matter, Financial Commissioner (Development) Sarvjit Singh held a meeting with the officials of the Agriculture Department. It was decided in the meeting that colleges which do not fulfill the criteria should not be allowed admission in the upcoming session. The department has sent a file to the CM to review the decision of the previous government led by Charanjit Singh Channi and not to allow these colleges to offer agriculture courses.
Out of 89 only 5 colleges have NOC
After reviewing the colleges given the extension, it has been found that out of 89 private institutes offering B.Sc Agriculture course, only five had NOC. A government official told the Indian Express that earlier there were 117 colleges that gave agriculture degrees. But many colleges stopped granting agriculture degrees, because students were not getting admission in this course. You will be surprised to know that out of these 89 colleges, only 54 have students. Not a single student is studying this subject in the rest of the colleges given extension.
