An important meeting is going to take place between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray at 11 am on Tuesday. In this meeting, there is a possibility of discussion on the demand for Maratha reservation and OBC reservation, demand for more vaccines for Maharashtra, the demand for early payment of the amount of GST that is going to be given by the Center to Maharashtra. After meeting the Prime Minister at eleven o’clock, the Chief Minister will hold a press conference at 12 in the morning. Everyone’s eyes are fixed on this meeting of PM and CM. The question that is most curious in Maharashtra is that after this meeting, will the issue of Maratha reservation be resolved? Will the central government take initiative for Maratha reservation?
The delegation that is going to meet the Prime Minister along with CM Uddhav Thackeray will include Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, President of Maratha Reservation Sub-Committee and PWD Minister Ashokrao Chavan and Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde. The Chief Minister is visiting Delhi for the second time in his tenure. Before leaving for Delhi, the Chief Minister met NCP chief Sharad Pawar at the Chief Minister’s Varsha bungalow.
Backward Classes Commission will have a big role
In the opinion of political experts in Maharashtra, it is too early to expect any way out regarding Maratha reservation in this meeting. Constitutional questions are associated with this issue. The Central Backward Classes Commission is going to play an important role in this.
Maratha reservation question is complicated
According to the decision of the Supreme Court in the case of Indira Sawhney, if the limit of reservation is to be increased by more than 50 percent, then this matter can now be resolved through Parliament after the Supreme Court refused it. Or the Central Government can request the Supreme Court citing the changed situation. In such a situation, the role of the center is important. That is why it would have been good if the leaders of all the parties sat with the Prime Minister. Anyway, the issue of Maratha reservation is important for all parties. The court is not allowing to go beyond the limit of 50 percent. OBC society will not be ready to give reservation within 50 percent. Therefore, it remains curious to know what is the initiative tomorrow in the direction of solving this question.
There may be demand for more vaccines
In Maharashtra, the first vaccination campaign was started for the people of 18 to 44 years. But it had to be closed due to lack of vaccine. Global tenders were taken out to buy the vaccine, but there was no good response from foreign companies. Foreign companies want to deal with the central government itself. Meanwhile, on Sunday, PM Modi has removed the huge tension of the state governments by announcing that the central government will provide free vaccine for people above the age of 18 years. But the Chief Minister can demand more and more doses for Maharashtra so that the vaccination in Maharashtra can be completed as soon as possible.
