Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Saturday announced that all vacant patwari posts would be filled in addition to mandating biometric attendance of employees at their places of business in an effort to end the ongoing strike by revenue officers in Punjab.
“This is the government of the people and the common man will not face harassment due to whims and fancies of agitating government officials,” said the CM in a statement today.
1,623 of the 3,660 patwari positions in the state, according to the CM, are occupied at the moment. Now, the government has made the decision to quickly fill the remaining 2,037 positions.
Mann claimed that 741 trainees who had already finished 15 of the required 18 months of training were being assigned to these positions as field patwaris on a regular basis.
The CM stated that although these patwaris had already been chosen through an open hiring process, they hadn’t yet received appointment letters as a result of some legalities. The required conditions will shortly be met, and in the next days, appointment letters will be given to the new hires.
Mann added that 586 positions would soon be advertised, providing young people an opportunity to work for the state.
The CM declared that biometric attendance would now be required for the revenue officers, taking into account the practise among patwaris of hiring individuals to do their duties. He claimed that would guarantee patwaris efficiently carried out their duties during business hours. Mann stated that the state’s commitment to provide the public with a pristine, effective, responsive, and open administration.
The Punjab Patwar Union announced that while they were happy with the outcome because their first demand had been satisfied, they will continue to demonstrate until their other demands were met.
“There are 4,716 sanctioned posts in Punjab, but with the formation of new districts, the number must have increased to 7,500,” said Harvir Singh Dhindsa, president of the union. They additionally sought clarity from the government on how it plans to handle patwari fieldwork using biometric attendance.
