Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) The team raided and arrested three officials, including the Executive Engineer of the Water Resources Department, who demanded a bribe of Rs 24 lakh from a contractor. Director of ACB Arif H Shaikh said that the ACB has arrested the Executive Engineer of Water Resources Department R.K. B. Singh, Sub-Divisional Officer R. B. Chaurasia and Deputy Engineer D.K. Arya was caught red-handed taking Rs 1.30 lakh as the first installment on Friday.
24 lakh bribe
Arif H Shaikh said that the complainant had complained in the Jagdalpur office of ACB that he had received the contract for construction work of Rs 1.11 crore on the basis of tender from Water Resources Department, Kondagaon. To get the bill of construction works, Executive Engineer R. B. Singh, Sub-Divisional Officer R. B. Chaurasia and Deputy Engineer D.K. Arya had demanded Rs 24 lakh from him.
All three were caught red handed by ACB
He told that the accused were demanding Rs 7.20 lakh as installment from the complainant in lieu of withdrawing the bill. Later, it was agreed between the complainant and the accused to pay Rs 1.30 lakh as installment. After verification of the complaint, the ACB team raided Chaurasia’s residence in Kondagaon on Friday and caught the three officers red handed while taking Rs 1.30 lakh from the complainant, the official said. Sheikh said that a case has been registered against the accused under sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
