What is the history of Maa Kushmanda’s temple?
According to historian Dr. Bhawanidin, the idol style of Kushmanda Devi with two faces appears to be from the Maratha period, which is between the second and fifth centuries. They were discovered by a cowherd named Kohra, at which time the king Ghatampur used to visit here. It was he who got Maa’s Madhiya constructed at this place in the year 1330, after which in 1890 a businessman got this temple renovated anew. If 75-year-old local elder Radhey Shyam is to be believed, then his ancestors had told that years ago there used to be a forest at this place. People used to come to this area to graze their pets. Every day a cow used to come to this place and spill its milk. The owner of this cow got upset that my cow’s milk goes missing every day and when he followed his cow, he saw the cow pouring milk in this place. When he excavated this place, he found this idol of the mother and if he wanted to remove this idol, he kept digging while digging, but could not find the end of the idol, after which Raja Ghatampur Darshan got this small stone made, whose people started worshiping. It is also told that under the rule of the British, efforts were made to build a road from this place, but they also did not get any success, because the number of days the idol was excavated, the other day also had to be excavated from there.
Worship is done here, this tradition is from the time of ancestors
In the temples of the country, you will see sadhus, saints and babas worshiping God in the temples, but here the worship of Malin (the door-to-door flower-distributor) is done by this mother, who adorns Kushmanda Devi, wears clothes and enjoys. It seems, this tradition is going on for hundreds of years, if Kamala Devi, the mistress of the temple is believed, then hundreds of people come here every day for darshan, who serve the mother according to reverence. Here the water coming out of the mother’s pindi has given relief to the eyes of many people. Sore and cataract in the eye starts getting relief from the very first day itself.

Maa Kushmanda Devi at Ghatampur is of a four-faced shape, having two faces and her pindi appears to be lying on the ground. If local resident Ram Kumar Mishra is to be believed, then this is the only idol in the world, which is of quadruple angle. Due to this, lakhs of devotees come here on the Chaturthi of Nauratri, who offer raw gram for enjoyment along with the adornment of the mother. Kumhra is also sacrificed here, which is the favorite fruit of the mother.
