Of these, one each died in Kedarnath and Badrinath on Sunday. According to the information, the cause of death is cardiac arrest and other diseases.
Chardham Yatra started from May 3
In fact, after a gap of two years due to the COVID-19 epidemic, the Char Dham Yatra started on May 3. The Yatra includes pilgrimages to Yamunotri and Gangotri in Uttarkashi, Kedarnath in Rudraprayag and Badrinath in Chamoli districts. All these are located in the mountainous region of Garhwal Himalayas. Since the beginning of the yatra, the chain of deaths of pilgrims continues. According to media reports, the death toll has now crossed 100. In view of this, the Uttarakhand government has taken a big decision. Uttarakhand Director General of Health Shailja Bhatt said that we have decided to make medical screening mandatory for all pilgrims of 50 and above age coming for Char Dham Yatra.
Advice to pilgrims to return
Rudraprayag Chief Medical Officer BK Shukla said that pilgrims found medically unfit to proceed on further journey are being advised to return. At the same time, those who refuse to accept this and are adamant to reach the temple. We are also taking a promise from those pilgrims to follow it.
Mandatory medical check-up for pilgrims
Uttarkashi Chief Medical Officer KS Chauhan also confirmed that medical examination is being done on a mandatory basis for the pilgrims above 50 years. He said that medical check-up is being done at three places at Barkot, Jan ki Chatti and Yamunotri temple, while medical check-up is being done for pilgrims above 50 years of age at Hina and Gangotri temple.
Lack of time also cause of death
Tourism Secretary Dilip Jawalkar said that earlier, the journey was done through public transport and the journey was of at least nine days, but now pilgrims come in private vehicles and due to good roads, the movement is fast. They get very little time to adapt themselves to the weather here, which has a bad effect on their health. Bhatt also blamed the lack of favorable timing for the death.
