The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has so far registered 11 FIRs related to incidents of murder, gang rape and attempt to murder in the violence after the assembly elections in West Bengal. In which the names of 99 people are there. CBI officials gave this information. Some of the FIRs made public on Friday revealed that one case pertains to the murder of a Trinamool Congress (TMC) worker, three related to the murder and attempt to murder of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers, while in four cases the victims or The affiliation of the accused with any party has not been revealed.
Rape cases in the midst of violence
According to the FIRs, during the violence in West Bengal, some victims were murdered, attacked by mobs, and gang-raped. CBI has so far registered crime cases from Bankura, Nadia, Kolkata, Cooch Behar, North 24 Parganas, Murshidabad and other places. The FIR alleges that in a murder case, the women of the victim’s family were sexually assaulted by the mob. The FIRs contain details of offenses registered between May 2 and June 14, 2021.
Case registered in Ahmed’s case also
The FIR alleged that on May 4, TMC supporters Sahinoor Ahmed and Prasenjit were having food when four BJP supporters joined them. Ahmed and Prosenjit were attacked after the meal, causing serious injuries to them. He was dragged to a nearby maize field and left there. Prosenjit survived the incident, Ahmed died.
Meanwhile, CBI spokesperson RC Joshi said here that a case has been registered against three accused for gang rape in Murshidabad. He said the CBI has taken over the cases as per the directions of a five-judge bench of the Calcutta High Court. The court had tasked the agency to investigate incidents of alleged murder and rape during the post-poll violence in West Bengal.
