On the occasion of Buddha Purnima, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that those who believe in humanity will have to come together to defeat terrorism. He said that the life of Buddha was a life of peace, goodwill and co-existence. Addressing the Vesak Global Ceremony through video conferencing, the Prime Minister said that today is a day to renounce and remember ideals. Apart from the Prime Ministers of Sri Lanka and Nepal, Culture Minister of Mongolia and Bhutan were also included in this program.
The Vesak Global Festival is organized by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India in collaboration with the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC). It consists of the supreme heads of Buddhist associations around the world. More than 50 prominent Buddhist religious leaders of the world will address this ceremony. Vesak-Buddha Purnima is celebrated as the birth of Gautama Buddha, attainment of enlightenment and Mahaparinirvana Day.
PM Modi said on this occasion, “Even today there are some forces whose existence depends on hate, terror and unending violence. Such people do not trust liberal democratic principles. The need of the hour is that those who trust in humanity come together and defeat terror and fundamentalism. For this, we have to follow the path shown by Lord Buddha. “

Earlier, President Ramnath Kovind wrote on Twitter, wishing people, “Happy Buddha Purnima to all followers of Lord Buddha.” Buddha’s teachings show the whole world the path of freedom from suffering and sorrow. Walking on the path of knowledge, compassion and service of Lord Buddha, all countrymen should be free from COVID-19 on the strength of solidarity and collective determination. “
At the same time, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu also said in his message, “Lord Buddha was one of the greatest spiritual gurus of this earth. The eternal message of peace, brotherhood and compassion given by Lord Buddha inspires the people of the entire world to strive towards living a life based on moral values and satisfaction. Let us commit ourselves to the path of compassion and tolerance shown by Lord Buddha. “
