The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) gave a thumping performance in the Tripura local body elections, winning 329 out of 334 seats. The Communist Party of India (CPIM), Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Tipra Motha won one seat each. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party president JP Nadda congratulated the workers on the resounding victory and said that the people have given tremendous blessings.
Saffron party’s bumper victory in civic elections
Voting was held for 334 seats in urban local bodies, which include Agartala Municipal Corporation (51 wards), 13 municipal councils and 6 nagar panchayats in Tripura. The election was mainly fought between 3 parties (BJP, TMC and CPIM). Out of the total 334 seats in the state, elections were held in 6 Nagar Panchayats, 7 Municipal Councils and 222 seats in Agartala Municipal Corporation. Whereas a total of 81.54 percent voting took place in the state.
CPIM won 3 out of 222 seats, TMC won 1 seat and Tipra Motha won 1 seat. BJP already won 112 seats unopposed. The result was declared for the remaining 217 seats. Also, the BJP won all the 13 municipal bodies and got all the 51 seats for the Agartala Municipal Corporation.

JP Nadda said that the victory of the BJP in the local bodies is a symbol of the public’s faith and trust in the policies of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji, his public welfare schemes and the government of double engine for the development of the state. The party president said that in Tripura’s local body elections, BJP has won 329 out of 334 wards declared today. Out of which BJP had already won 112 seats unopposed. The opposition has got only 5 seats in this election.
