Agricultural scientist gave necessary advice

Presently farmers are busy in raising seedling nursery for fruits, flowers and vegetables to be planted during winter. But the farmers have to face a big problem or two or four due to disease, in this problem small plants (seedlings)(Seedling) They are falling from the surface of the ground, they do not understand what to do. This problem is called damping off. Farmers must keep information about this otherwise they will have to bear heavy losses and will have to bear it.

Agricultural scientist gave necessary advice

Dr. Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University Pusa, Samastipur, Bihar’s All India Research Project, Principal Investigator and Associate Director Research Dr SK Singh is telling the farmers through NewsNCR.

If farmers also know about the disease related to it before planting nursery, then they will not have much trouble. Dumping off associated with nursery is a common disease in nurseries which mostly occurs at the stage of sowing vegetables in nurseries.

This can kill the seedlings very quickly. The disease is caused by a soil-borne fungus and attacks many crops (all grown in nursery such as cole crops, tomatoes and peppers, papaya, marigold).

Symptoms on stems include brown watery sunken lesions at ground level. Gradually the stem or roots rot and the seedling falls to the surface of the ground and dies.

High density, high humidity and high temperature are one of the major seedling diseases of almost all fruits, flowers and vegetables grown in nurseries.

As plants get older they become more resistant to the disease and control measures are unnecessary. How to manage dumping off disease in nursery?

Wash the tools thoroughly with plenty of clean water before using them in the nursery. Select nursery beds in a sunny area with good aeration.

Make sure the nursery bed is well drained. Fertilize the soil in the nursery bed with sunlight (soil solarization). Moisten the prepared nursery bed then cover with white plastic (250-300 gauge) so that it remains air tight for 21 days. Then, remove the plastic and leave the nursery bed open for up to 3 days.

Always use treated seeds only. Treat the seed with Trichoderma @ 10 gm Trichoderma / liter of water.

If seeds have not been treated, place them in a container with Carbendazim @ 2 g/kg of seed, close the lid and shake well, thus treating the seeds.

To prevent the plants from becoming dense, keep the seedling distance between row to row 10 cm and between plant to plant 2 cm. Remove weak and unhealthy seedlings.

If symptoms of damping off disease are observed, spray fungicide containing Ridomil + Mancozeb @ 1.5 gm per liter of water in nursery seedlings.

When using a fungicide/pesticide, always wear protective clothing and follow the directions on the product label, such as dosage, application time and pre-harvest interval.
