Taxi driver tried to commit suicide
Sources said that Pratap came to the airport in his cab at 4.39 pm and stopped a few feet behind the pick-up point. Within a few minutes at the pickup point, he poured petrol on his body and set himself on fire. At the same time, public and security personnel reached the spot seeing the smoke caused by the fire. They broke the window panes of the cab before the arrival of the fire brigade and Pratap was removed from there.
Pratap was first taken to a nearby hospital but was later referred to Victoria Hospital due to a deep wound on his body. At the same time, many cab drivers were coming forward and expressing their protest on this incident, but the police chased them away from the premises.
Investigation is going on to find out the reason
At the same time, the cause of the incident has not been known. At the same time Deputy Commissioner of Police CK Baba said that investigation is on to find out the cause. Police said Pratap was in financial trouble due to the Corona epidemic. He was also very upset when he could not pay his car installment. KSTDC’s rates are higher than other cab aggregators and hence it was not getting the booking properly. He said that the matter is being discussed at the government level.
