Why is it important to treat seeds before sowing? Agricultural scientists say that by doing seed treatment, the chances of disease and insects in the crop will be greatly reduced. This will save the cost of the farmer and increase the productivity of the crop.
Presently sowing of Kharif crops is going on. If farmers follow the advice of agricultural scientists, then not only will the productivity of crops increase, but the outbreak of diseases will be minimized. This will reduce the cost of cultivation. Agricultural experts say that to increase the productivity of crops and protect them from insects and diseases, it is necessary to do 100% seed treatment before sowing. Just like every child gets polio vaccine, in the same way every seed is vaccinated with Seed Protection, then the picture of agriculture can change. While treating the seed, keep in mind that first the seed has to be treated with fungicide, then insecticide and finally with culture.
These days the Rajasthan government is motivating its farmers to treat the seeds before sowing it. However, if farmers from anywhere do this work, they will get benefit. The cost is very less in this but the benefits are quite good. Come, let us understand how the seeds of which Kharif season crops will be treated.
Maize
The name of Maize comes in the main crops of Kharif season. Before sowing, sow the untreated seed after seed treatment by mixing 3 grams thiram and 75 percent WP per kg of seed. In the areas prone to Tulasita disease, the seed must be treated with Metalaxyl systemic fungicide at the rate of 4 grams per kg of seed.
Millet
It is the main Kharif crop of Rajasthan. For the control of ergot disease in millet, immerse the seeds in 20 percent salt solution (one kilogram of salt in 5 liters of water) for five minutes, remove the light seeds and waste, wash them with clean water and dry the seeds in shade. . For termite control, treat the seed at the rate of 8.75 ml Imidacloprid 600 FS per kg. To control seed borne diseases, treat one kg of seed with 3 grams of thiram.
Groundnut
To prevent seed borne diseases like collar rot, treat one kg seed with 3 gm Thiram, 75% WP or 2 g Mancozeb and 75% WP. Or sow 8-10 grams treated with Trichoderma. For the prevention of white braid in groundnut, treat with 6.5 ml Imidacloprid 600 FS per kg seed.
Guar
For the prevention of blight disease, before sowing, treat the seed per kilogram by soaking it in a solution of 250 ppm agrimycin (1 gram 4 liters of water) for one and a half hours. For the control of root rot disease in guar, treat the seeds with Carbendazim 50% WP @ 2 grams per kg.
Soybean
Before sowing the seed, treat the seed with 3 grams Thiram, 75% WP or 2 grams Carbendazim 50% WP. To control root rot disease in soybean crop, sow by treating with Trichoderma organic fungicide at the rate of 6-8 grams per kg.
Urad and other Kharif Pulses
Before sowing, treat the seed with 3 grams thiram, 75% WP or 1 gram carbendazim 50% WP per kg. By doing this, the crop can be disease free in less cost. Later, the chances of getting the disease in him will be minimal.
