Addressing an election rally in Assam’s Kamrup district (Kamrup, Assam), Rahul Gandhi has raised the issue of Dipanjal Das, who died in Guwahati during a protest against CAA in 2019.
The first phase of voting has been held for 47 assembly seats in Assam (Assam) on 27 March and in the second phase, votes will be cast on 1 April (39 assembly) and in the third phase on 6 April (40 assembly). Today, under the third phase, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is on a state tour for campaigning. Rahul Gandhi is addressing two rallies in Kamrup district. During this time, he again tried to surround the BJP government by raising the issue of Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
Addressing the rally in Kamrup, Rahul Gandhi has raised the issue of Dipanjal Das, who died in Guwahati during the protest against CAA in 2019. He said, “When I came to meet the family of Dipanjal Das, I realized that a young man was not fired, but was fired on Assam, in which the assassination of Assam was attempted. He was not just a youth, but an idea. “
He further added, “Dipanjal Das was a youth of Assam. The BJP government did not do what it was supposed to do. They did not give him employment and when he stood for Assam peacefully, the BJP-RSS together shot him. We give you 5 guarantees, first of all, we will not allow CAA to be implemented in Assam. ” Earlier this morning, Rahul Gandhi offered prayers at Kamakhya Devi temple in Assam.
Why CAA is being made a big election issue
In fact, during the demonstrations against CAA in December 2019 and January 2020, a young man named Dipanjal Das, living in Chaygaon area, lost his life in Guwahati. During the assembly election campaign in the state, the opposition parties are trying to capitalize on this sensitive issues like CAA, and making it the main electoral issue. The reason for making CAA a big electoral issue is that opposition parties see increasing difficulties of ruling BJP through CAA.
In fact, in the year 2019-20, there was a lot of protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act in the upper districts of Assam. The sections of Assam that have been living in the state for decades are very angry because of CAA. In Assam, the student organizations AASU, AJYCP and Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti are campaigning against CAA. In view of this, efforts are being made to assuage the feelings of the people. In this election, BDF has formed an alliance with Congress and AIUDF.
