Cleanliness of trains is a big issue for railway passengers. The train running on the railway track day and night covers a distance of thousands of miles and during this time it has to bear dust, dirt, etc. In such a situation, the glowing red and blue coaches of the train become quite dirty. It takes both time and effort to clean them. But the railways have taken a great shortcut to it.
East Central Railway Zone has started such a highly automatic coach washing plant, due to which the 24-coach train is being cleaned in just 7 to 8 minutes. If there is a 15-16 bogie train, then its cleaning is being done in just 5 minutes. It is not taking much time nor hard work.

Effective in preventing water wastage
Along with cleaning more and more coaches in a short time, it is proving to be helpful in saving water as well. The great feature of this technique is that 80 percent of the water used for cleaning works is being reused. 80 percent of its water can be recycled and used again.
According to an estimate, about 2000 liters of water is wasted in the washing of the coach of the manually washed train. This waste will stop after the coach washing plant is set up.
The plant has been set up at a cost of 1.60 crores
This railway project has cost about 1.60 crores. Project in-charge Sanjeev Kumar said that only 40 feet long and 6 feet wide space is used on the track in the coach washing plant at Saharsa, prepared from Rs 1 crore 60 lakh. At the same time, to install a water tank, only 5 feet wide and 25 feet long space is needed next to the track.

In such a situation, all the coaches outside the trains are being washed at such a low space and at a low cost. The train will pass at a speed of 5 kilometers per hour inside the coach washing plant. In step by step the entire train’s exterior will be completely washed out.
This is how you understand the mathematics of train cleaning
According to a railway official, the length of a coach of a train is 23 meters. If we talk about 24 coaches of the train then the total length will be 552 meters. If this train passes through the coach washing plant at a speed of 5 km per hour, then the outer part of the train will be completely washed in just 6 to 7 minutes.
