AIADMK writes letter to Election Commission regarding IT raid on ministers, calls action political strategy

The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) wrote a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner of India alleging “political gains” behind several Income Tax (IT) raids on the campuses of party ministers and their allies. The incumbent side asked for the intervention of the Commissioner in the case. The AIADMK wrote in its letter, “DMK and Congress leaders have influence with bureaucrats and high officials, they have made officers to make promises related to ministers and their allies.”

The motive behind IT raids was to find out the transaction of money in politics. IT investigated the suspicion of distributing money in Tamil Nadu during the election tour. Raids were conducted in Chennai, Coimbatore and Karur. A senior IT department official said that all 28 campuses in 3 cities were covered under 132 of the IT Act.

Party advocate RM Babu Murugeshan said in the letter that for the last one week the DMK and Congress leaders have been trying to “prevent” their leaders from participating in the election campaign and have now started conducting raids. He said that elections are to be held in Tamil Nadu on April 6, in such a situation a wave of raids is being seen before the elections.

IT raid around 28 places

IT officials raided the residence of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) supremo MK Stalin’s daughter Senthamarai in Chennai on Friday. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said raids were conducted to investigate “political cash disbursements” in the state.

At a campaign rally in Jayalakondam on Friday, Stalin said, “He (DMK) will not be worried about it.” Conduct more searches. DMK general secretary Duraimurgan said that the IT raid on AIADMK was only an “eye wash”, while the DMK had to scare them. The Tamil Nadu assembly elections to be held in the same phase on 6 April will be counted on 2 May.
