The officials aware of the case confirmed that the aircraft had come down about 900 feet after the take off. Although the aircraft landed safely in Vienna after 9 hours 8 minutes, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) started investigation after this accident.
Both pilots were removed from flight duty and the airline's security chief was called for questioning. According to officials, the crew received a stick shaker alert. This is a serious warning that shakes flight control. This system is designed to attract the attention of pilots immediately and demand corrective action.
Officials acquainted with the incident said that during the flight there was a problem of stick shaker and GPWS alert in the aircraft. Soon after flying, stick shaker warning and GPWS sink warning appeared. Once the stall warning and GPWS caution came twice. During the climb, there was a loss of about 900 feet height.
Pilots removed from roster
The incident occurred 38 hours after the AI 171 accident. After the AI 171 accident, DGCA started better monitoring of the airline fleet and security protocols. A spokesman for Air India said that after receiving the report of the pilot, the information of the case was given to the DGCA as per the rules. Subsequently, further investigation was started after receiving the data from the aircraft recorder. The pilots have been removed from the roster until the results of the investigation come.
On June 17, the DGCA formally expressed concern about the maintenance issues of the aircraft and directed the airline to increase coordination in engineering, operation and ground handling departments, focusing on security.
