Agriculture Education: If agriculture is studied at the primary and secondary school level, then there will be a trend towards agriculture in the new generation. The Union Agriculture Minister said that the agriculture sector is going to create many employment opportunities. The government has a lot of focus on this area.
The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has started the exercise of bringing agriculture into the school education curriculum. That is, now agriculture education will start from the lower level. At present, the education of agriculture is negligible in school education. A brainstorming session was organized in this regard on Tuesday. It was started by Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar. Tomar said that the agriculture sector has a very important place in the country and the livelihood of a large population is dependent on the agriculture sector. Agriculture is India’s strength and its primacy which is going to remain in the future, but it will also expand. In view of this, it is necessary to make an effort to connect the agriculture world with the new education policy.
The minister said that the agriculture sector has supported the country even in adverse circumstances. Our agriculture sector has performed positively even during the Covid crisis. There is a need for continuous improvement, increased investment and technology support in this area. The purpose of organizing the brainstorming session was to work towards developing vocational courses including agricultural science. Therefore, a new model will be introduced at the primary, middle and secondary school level, which includes agriculture. The Agriculture Minister’s office has said that this session will contribute to the inclusion of agriculture as a subject. Not only this, it will provide students the option of looking for careers in various fields of agriculture.
There will be a trend towards agriculture in the new generation
Tomar said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi also wants that farmers should move towards prosperity through these mediums and accordingly the government has taken many concrete steps. There are many dimensions in agriculture, on which it is necessary to work together. Its challenges are to be solved. In this episode, agriculture should also find a place in school education and there should be continuity in agriculture and every Indian should be connected with it, it is necessary. Tomar said that if the interest towards agriculture in the children will remain from the schools, then they will move towards agriculture after college studies.
Skilled workers are farmers
The Agriculture Minister said that our farmers are naturally skilled workers. In the present circumstances, the agriculture sector is going to create a lot of employment opportunities in the coming tomorrow. The central government is engaged in linking agriculture with technology and strengthening it with the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund of one lakh crore rupees. The brainstorming session was also addressed by Dr. Pankaj Mittal, General Secretary, Association of Indian Universities and Anita Noona, Head of NCERT Curriculum Development.
ICAR Deputy Director General (Agriculture Education) Dr. RC Agrawal informed through a presentation about the current status of agricultural education in the country and the need to bring agricultural education to the school level. Officials of the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE), ICAR, NCERT and CBSE, school principals, senior teachers and experts stressed the need to include agriculture as a subject in the school curriculum.
