Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said that under the guidance of the Prime Minister, Agriculture Infrastructure Fund of one lakh crore rupees has been started. Through which facilities will be developed till the villages and farms and food security efforts will be strengthened. Work is being done to increase the power of small farmers in the country and attract them towards costly crops. The scheme to create 10,000 new FPOs (Farmer Producer Organization) in the country will also prove to be a milestone.
Tomar was addressing a web seminar on ‘Safe Food Today for a Healthy Tomorrow’ organized by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry on World Food Safety Day on Monday. He said that India’s economic development in the last few years has made great progress in improving livelihoods for the vulnerable. The standard of living of the common people is rising. The government has spent 15 thousand crore rupees last year on nutrition related schemes to prevent malnutrition and underdevelopment in childhood.
Role of Anganwadi and PDS
The Union Agriculture Minister said that in view of the importance of nutrition for the development-welfare of the society, the central government has taken important steps like providing mid-day meal in schools, ration to pregnant and lactating mothers, subsidized food grains for people living below poverty line. steps have been taken. Anganwadi and Public Distribution System (PDS) have an important role in this. Ensuring nutritious food products is an integral aspect of the food processing industry. This is also one of the main objectives of the government.
Prime Minister Kisan Sampada Yojana work
Tomar said that due to various reforms and measures in agri-food sectors, India is witnessing high production of food grains, fruits and vegetables, dairy, meat, poultry etc. The nutritive value of food can be preserved through the processing of new technology. He said that the Ministry of Food Processing Industries has implemented the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana to attract investment and promote easy trade.
Corona virus does not spread through food: Tomar
Agriculture Minister Tomar said that although Coronavirus does not spread through food, but at present this global pandemic has drawn attention to issues related to food security, such as sanitation, antimicrobial resistance, climate change etc.
It has become more important for every citizen to understand and be aware of good nutrition, clean food and its impact on the immune system. In today’s fast paced life a healthy-nourishing diet is important to fight diseases and maintain good immunity.
