IGNOU to conduct degree course for Agniveers recruited from Agneepath scheme

Agnipath Agniveer Skill Training: In view of the Agniveer recruitment to be done under the Agnipath scheme, preparations are being made to train the youth. For this, the Union Ministry of Education and IGNOU together have prepared a plan for a 3-year degree course. Read details…

Agnipath Agniveer Training Course IGNOU news in Hindi: The Union Ministry of Education has prepared a plan to give a three-year graduate skill degree for the Agnipath Agniveers recruited under the Agnipath scheme. This degree will be given through Indira Gandhi National Open University ie IGNOU. Soon the MoU will be signed between the three services (Army, Navy and Airforce) and IGNOU. This decision has been taken in a meeting chaired by Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Wednesday, 15 June 2022.

On Tuesday, June 14, the Union Cabinet had approved the Agneepath Recruitment Scheme for Indian youth. Under the Agneepath scheme, after the completion of four years of service, the Ministry of Education will start a special program in view of the future of the youth. It will be a three year skill based undergraduate degree programme. The ministry says that this skill-based bachelor’s degree program will give a recognition to the experience and skills of Agniveers during their tenure.

What will the Agniveer Training Course be like?

The degree program under this program is designed by IGNOU. For Bachelor’s degree, 50% marks will be obtained through skill training. These will be decided on the basis of technical or non-technical experience of Agniveers during their tenure. While the remaining 50% will be decided by the subjects of the syllabus. It covers diverse subjects like Language, Economics, History, Political Science, Public Administration, Sociology, Mathematics, Education, Commerce, Tourism, Business Studies, Agriculture and Astrology. In addition, environmental studies and communication skills in English have also been included in the curriculum.

The course is based on National Education Policy and UGC norms

This course aligns with the National Credit Framework / National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) as mandated under the National Education Policy 2020 along with UGC norms. It also has a provision for multiple exit points. On successful completion of first year courses graduate can take exit from the course with certificate. On successful completion of first and second year courses graduate diploma i.e. UG diploma, and on completion of all courses in three year time limit Bachelor ( UG) degree.

UGC and IGNOU are working together to provide recognition for the skills acquired by Agniveers. In addition, once the Digital University is established, Agniveers will have the opportunity to do courses in emerging areas. This will make them future ready. pic.twitter.com/P3ONNWo8BA

The curriculum has been duly recognized by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVTE) and UGC. The degree will be awarded by IGNOU as per UGC norms BA, BCom, BA (Vocational), BA (Tourism Management). It will be recognized everywhere in India and abroad for employment and education. The Army, Navy and Air Force (IAF) will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IGNOU for the implementation of the scheme.
