MSP On Milk: Farmers of Odisha are now demanding MSP on milk as well. Farmers say that in the current era, the price of milk at MSP should not be less than Rs 50 a liter. Along with this, the farmers demanded that milk parlors should be set up in all the national highways so that employment opportunities can be found.

An organization of dairy farmers in the state has also submitted a memorandum to Union Minister Sanjeev Balyan regarding this. Through the memorandum, the dairy farmers have demanded that the minimum support price for milk should be Rs 50 per liter, so that farmers can get maximum benefits. In fact, Union Minister Sajeev Balyan has come to Odisha on a two-day visit, during which Rabi Behera, president of the Milk Farmers Association, met him and submitted a memorandum to him. Keeping his point, the association said that the milk producers of the state have ensured that India should achieve the top position in this field at the world level. So they should be encouraged.
To encourage milk producers, they should get fair price for their produce so that they can get profit. Therefore, in the current era of price hike, there is a need to fix the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of milk at Rs 50 per liter. Simultaneously, the dairy products body requested the Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying to include milk and other milk-based products like paneer in integrated child development services and mid-day meal programmes, so that children can also benefit from it.
Demand to set up milk parlors on national highways
The ICDS scheme is one of the major programs of the Center for the care and development of children, while under Mid-day school-going children are given cooked meals in the school, to keep the children away from malnutrition. Mid Day Meal Scheme is one of the biggest schemes in the world. The Association also demanded setting up of Milk Parlors on National Highways so as to create additional employment opportunities for unemployed youth. Also urged the Union Minister to take the initiative to set up Milk Hubs in the premises of various temples of the country where Dairy products can be provided for worship.
Demand to preserve grazing land
Rabi Behera, president of the Milk Farmers Association, has also demanded protection of grazing land across the country to promote animal husbandry. Behera said that the minister appreciated the demand of the association and assured them of taking necessary steps to promote this sector. New employment opportunities will also be created in this area, which will benefit the youth.
