Despite the timely onset of monsoon and normal progress, the lack of adequate rainfall has become a challenge for the farmers. This is the reason why sowing has been less than last year. Agricultural experts do not consider only rain as the reason for this.
Kharif crops (Kharif Crops) for the rain is quite important. This is the reason why farmers monsoon (Monsoon) eagerly awaits. This time the monsoon had reached the Kerala coast ahead of time. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also predicted a normal monsoon. Meaning the conditions are fine regarding the rains, but still the sowing of Kharif crops has not picked up pace. The reason behind this is that till the third week of June, there was not as much rain as it should have. However, there has been good rain in the last 4-5 days and it is expected that now the sowing operations will pick up.
In a state like Punjab, the dependence on rain for agriculture is less, because there is a system for irrigation here. But the situation is not like this in other states of the country. Farmers are dependent on monsoon for irrigating about 60 percent of the Kharif area. The most important thing is that 70 percent of the total rain in India is received in monsoon. In such a situation, it can be guessed that what is the meaning of monsoon for the agriculture based economy of the country. By the way, the IMD has said that there will be good rains in the end of June and the beginning of July. This time is considered very important for Kharif crops.
Sowing is less than last year
Despite the timely onset of monsoon and normal progress, the lack of adequate rainfall has become a challenge for the farmers. This is the reason why sowing has been less than last year. Agricultural experts do not consider only rain as the reason for this. He says that according to the orders of the government in Punjab and Haryana, the planting of paddy has started late. Along with the rain this is also a reason.
According to the Agriculture Ministry data released last week, till last Friday, kharif crops have been sown in an area of 99.6 lakh hectares. This is 8 percent less than last year. However, this is the initial day of sowing of Kharif crops and it is expected to accelerate in the coming time. Monsoon is progressing fast and conditions are better for good rains. In the last few days, the rain deficit has come down from 25 per cent to 5 per cent.
On the reduction in sowing figures, it has been said on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture that these are early days. Farmers have a lot of time now and kharif crops are sown by the end of July. Monsoon rains have started and it will intensify further in the coming days. It is expected that the area will increase and farmers will plant vigorously.
