Haryana Agricultural University has entered into an agreement with a private company to reach the farmers of improved varieties of mustard, wheat and oats. If production increases, income will also increase.
The improved varieties of wheat, mustard and oats developed by Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University will now benefit not only the farmers of Haryana but also the farmers of other states of the country. For this, the university has tied up with a leading seed company in the private sector under Public Private Partnership. Under this, the private company will prepare and deliver the seeds of WH 1270 of wheat, RH 725 of mustard and OS 405 of oats developed by the university to the farmers so that farmers can get reliable seeds of improved varieties and increase their yield. The average yield in this variety of wheat is about 76 quintals per hectare.
University Vice Chancellor Prof. BR Kamboj said that until the technology developed by the scientists of the university does not reach the farmers, it is of no use. Therefore, by signing such agreements, it is the effort of the university that the seeds and techniques of improved varieties of crops developed here can be made available to more and more farmers.
What is special about these varieties?
- The beans of the RH 725 variety of mustard are taller than other varieties. The number of grains in them is also more. Also, the size of the grains is also bigger and the amount of oil is more.
- WH 1270 variety of wheat was approved for cultivation in North South Zone of the country last year. The average yield of this variety is 75.8 quintals per hectare. While the production capacity is 91.5 quintals per hectare. The protein content in it is 12 percent. Usually yields up to 50 quintals.
- OS 405 variety of oats is suitable for the central zone of the country. Its green fodder yield is 51.3 quintal per hectare while the grain production is 16.7 per hectare.
What will be the benefit to the farmers
Improved varieties of seeds will lead to higher yields of crops. Due to which the income of the farmers will increase. The economic condition of the state and the country will also be strong. That is why ten such MoUs have been signed by the university with various private companies in the last one year. So that good quality seeds can reach the farmers easily.
For these improved varieties of crops, a private company in Gurugram has been granted a non-monopoly license by the university for three years. Under which this seed company will be able to produce and market the above varieties of wheat, mustard and oats. Earlier this company has also tied up with the university for varieties of jowar, bajra and moong.
