Despite the drop on Tuesday, it was the third highest daily figure since the start of the country’s vaccination campaign on January 16, but the daily numbers fluctuated significantly across states.
Heavy fall in Madhya Pradesh compared to the first day
In Madhya Pradesh, on the first day of the new guideline, 1.7 lakh people were vaccinated on Monday, but till 10 pm on Tuesday, only 68 thousand 370 people were given doses. A 96 percent drop was recorded in the middle of the two days. At the same time, the data shows that there was a 75 percent drop in the daily vaccination numbers in Haryana on Tuesday. Till 10 pm, 1,28,979 people were vaccinated, which was 511,882 on the first day.
Center’s target regarding vaccination
The central government has set a target to vaccinate 8 crore people between June 21 and June 30. At the same time, in July, the Center has set a target of giving 24.8 crore doses. Senior health ministry officials attributed the increase in vaccination rates on Monday and Tuesday to better coordination between the Center and the states. Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said that the country has already been ahead in the vaccination campaign, he gave the example of polio drive for this.

At the same time, MP State Immunization Officer Santosh Shukla said that they have fixed Tuesday and Friday for general vaccination and Sunday is ‘No Vaccination Day’. 61 percent drop in Karnataka
The number of vaccinations in Karnataka stood at 10,67,734 on Monday, which declined by 61 percent to 4,46,780 by 10 pm on Tuesday. On Sunday, the state had issued 68 thousand 172 shots. Officials of the state health department said Monday’s numbers suggest they may be carrying out mass vaccinations. This is a feat they want to repeat in the days to come, provided there are enough vaccines.
The pace also slowed down in Andhra Pradesh and Bihar, with 34 per cent and 29 per cent fewer shots on Tuesday, data shows. In other states such as Maharashtra, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Uttar Pradesh, operations picked up pace on Tuesday and to some extent compensated for a large part of the damage caused by Monday’s numbers.
Increase in these states
According to the Co-Win dashboard, Maharashtra saw the biggest increase in numbers – a 45 per cent increase from 3,94,794 doses administered on Monday to 5,74,365 as of 10 pm on Tuesday. After this, Punjab saw 24 percent increase, Himachal Pradesh 23 percent and Chhattisgarh 22 percent increase since Monday.
Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday showed a 15 percent increase in daily vaccinations. The state had administered 8,44,174 vaccines till 10 pm, which was the highest in the country on Tuesday. Most of the northeastern states were able to keep up with the vaccination pace by vaccinating 19 percent more people. Several states said they are looking forward to the delivery of more vaccines in the next few days, which will help them keep up the pace.
States demand to increase vaccine availability
In Rajasthan, where 4,20,697 people were vaccinated on Tuesday, while 4,74,868 people were vaccinated on Monday, state officials said vaccination had to be stopped in several districts due to shortage. State Health Minister Raghu Sharma, in a letter to Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, urged to increase the vaccine allocation from 6.5 million to 15 million doses for the month of July.
NITI Aayog member VK Paul said that during the COVID-19 press conference on Tuesday, emphasis was placed on increasing rural vaccination. About 63.7 percent of the doses given on Monday were in villages and 36 percent in urban areas. This makes it clear that rural outreach is possible in the vaccination campaign.
