The Gautam Buddha Nagar administration has asked the district police to seize diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years in compliance with the Supreme Court order to check air pollution. According to the ‘Winter Action Plan’ released by the Gautam Buddh Nagar district administration, the police have also been asked to ensure that vehicles not going to Noida or Greater Noida use the bypass or peripheral expressway.
According to the plan, the police have been asked to keep a strict vigil and have a policy of no-tolerance towards visible emissions by stopping “obviously polluting vehicles” or issuing fines to those who break the rules.
Air pollution increases in winter
On October 6, the administration issued a ‘winter action plan’ to various government agencies and officials to check pollution ahead of winter. In winter, air pollution in the National Capital Region (NCR) including Noida and Greater Noida reaches severe levels affecting human health.
The administration asked the police to list down the traffic congestion points in the district and issue an advisory accordingly.
