Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is being questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for the third consecutive day in a money laundering case. The ED has questioned the Congress leader for more than 11 hours on Tuesday and for more than 10 hours on Monday. Congress supporters have spoken against the ED regarding this.
Around 800 senior party leaders and workers have been detained since Monday for protesting against the Enforcement Directorate (ED) questioning of former Congress President Rahul Gandhi by Delhi Police in violation of Section 144. Sachin Pilot’s name is also included in those taken into custody.
Congress leaders and workers were also detained on Wednesday for protesting outside the ED office and party headquarters. Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order Zone II) Sagar Preet Hooda said the protesters did not have permission.
“We have detained around 800 Congress supporters and leaders since Monday. They didn’t have permission to protest and we informed them about it.
Despite this, he performed, he said. We have made adequate security arrangements. On Monday, the police had detained 459 Congress workers and senior leaders. On Tuesday, 217 leaders and workers were detained.
A police statement said that from May 24 this year, Section 144 of the CrPC is in force in the area, under which public meetings, processions and demonstrations are prohibited in the area.
In view of Rahul Gandhi’s appearance before the ED on Wednesday too, the police had closed many roads and traffic was diverted on many, after which the movement of vehicles in central Delhi was affected.
A senior police official said that around 400 traffic personnel were deployed in New Delhi district. “There was no call regarding jam from anywhere in New Delhi district. Traffic was managed smoothly,” the official said. The roads which have been closed, the route was changed there.
