All our curly-haired friends will know that their hair is never really that well behaved. Your curls will never look like the previous day.
The standards of beauty keep changing, but this year, the lesson to learn is to never let them define you. This year has been about embracing your true self and being authentic with who you are as a person. Learning to love yourself for who you are can be difficult, but we are all a work in progress. What do you think about loving and caring for your thick hair?
All our curly-haired friends will know that their hair is never really that well behaved. Your curls will never look the same as the day before, and once in a blue moon comes the ‘day of good hair’. We are as tired as you are of breakage, dryness, frizz and the hair on our head looking like a lion’s hair!
What if we told you that you can make every day a great hair day? Read on to find out what mistakes you’re making, how to avoid them, and what to use to make your natural curls bouncy and attractive.
Mistake #1 – Squeaky-Clean Scalp
Shampooing often dehydrates your hair and strips it of essential oils, leading to dryness. While the frequency of your shampooing days is entirely up to you and your lifestyle, it is recommended that you wash them only once or twice every week.
When you do this, use only a gently cleansing shampoo, focusing on your scalp rather than the ends. Use a detangling oil or mask on your hair 15-30 minutes before shampooing to eliminate knots and frizz.
Mistake #2 – Combining Wrong
If you wait for your hair to dry and then use a fine comb to brush it out, you’re essentially breaking your curl pattern, opening the door for frizz and causing your hair to become a mess. The uncontrolled are turning into filth. We know this will make our desi moms gasp, but please note that never part your hair after taking a shower.
The ideal time to do this is when you are in the shower and conditioning your hair. This will also ensure that the conditioner is evenly distributed throughout the length of your hair. After you’ve styled them through, you should just use a comb to structure your curls.
Mistake #3 – Skipping Leave-in Conditioner
Using a regular conditioner after shampooing is unfortunately not enough for textured hair. Curly hair needs much more moisture and hydration to stay frizzy and bouncy for longer. This is the reason why using a good leave-in conditioner is highly recommended. Apart from providing a hefty dose of hydration and nutrition, it also acts as a protective barrier against harmful pollutants, humidity, UV rays and the like.
Mistake #4 – Avoiding Hair Masks
With curly hair, adequate amount of moisturization and deep conditioning is important. Hair masks not only help strengthen and manage uncontrollable curls, but also ensure deep nourishment to every single strand of fine hair, lock in hydration and prevent breakage.
Mistake #5 – Removing Hair Serum
Many of us feel that applying product to our hair will make it feel heavy and sticky. If you use the right products, it’s actually the opposite. Don’t skip serums even after a leave-in conditioner as they are essential to protect your hair from heat, moisture and sun rays, and keep your hair shiny and frizz-free all day long.
Try this hair serum that’s non sticky, smooth, and lightweight, and has a formula enriched with avocado and grape seed oils that’s great for curly hair.
