Gupt Godavari

Gupt Godavari is one of the most famous pilgrimage sites of Chitrakoot. ‘Gupta’ means ‘hidden’ and ‘Godavari’ is a tributary of the Ganges, the largest river in India. So, basically, these places are a series of deep caves through which the Godavari flows. If you go here, be prepared to fold your pants till your knees or else you will get them wet as the whole cave is filled with water and you have to walk through it to reach the deity.

Janaki Kund

Situated 3 km from Chitrakoot, this is a holy place. It is believed that Goddess Sita used to bathe here. This is a very beautiful ghat situated on the banks of river Mandakini. It offers splendid views along with a spiritual experience.

Ramghat Chitrakoot

Ramghat is a very famous staircase situated on the banks of Mandakini river in Chitrakoot. Interestingly, what makes this place popular among tourists is its historical importance. Ramghat is the place where Lord Rama, Lakshmana and Sita met Tulsidas, a poet known for the first major works like Ram Charitra Manas. Therefore, one must definitely visit Chitrakoot.


Marfa is a great place for nature lovers to visit Chitrakoot. It is located on the outskirts, about 13 km from the city center. This place is home to the ruins of the famous Chandel Fort. Where there are waterfalls and many historical temples.


If you are willing to go for a long ride while roaming around Chitrakoot, you can visit a small village known as Rajapur, located about 40 km from the city centre. This village is the birthplace of Tulsidas. He was a famous poet who wrote Hanuman Chalisa and Ram Charitra Manas.
