Akshaya Tritiya is of great importance in Mathura and Vrindavan of Uttar Pradesh. One can see the feet of Thakurji in Shri Banke Bihari Temple in Vrindavan. The darshan of Thakurji’s feet occurs only once in a year on the day of Akshaya Tritiya. People from all over the world visit Vrindavan during this time. In the temples of Vrindavan, devotees decorate the deities with sandalwood paste. Thakurji’s clothes are made from sandalwood paste. On this day people take bath in the Ganges. It is believed that by doing this one gets freedom from sins. Special prasad is offered to the Lord on this day. It includes cucumber, sattu, mango and juice etc.
West Bengal
People in West Bengal consider this day to be one of the most auspicious days of the year. Buying silver, gold and land on this day is considered very auspicious. On this day people organize special worship ceremonies. People in West Bengal worship Goddess Lakshmi on this day.
