Occupied many important posts in the administrative service
Born on 6 November 1937 in Patna, Yashwant Sinha studied in the capital itself. After taking a master’s degree in Political Science in 1958, he worked as a teacher from Patna University till 1960. During this, the preparation for his administrative service continued. In 1960, he was selected in the Indian Administrative Service and for 24 years he contributed to the administrative service. During this time he occupied many important positions.
He worked as Secretary and Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Government of Bihar for two years. After this, appointment was made for the post of Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Commerce, Government of India. Not only this, he took important responsibility in the Indian Embassy. From 1971 to 1974, Yashwant Sinha was appointed the first Secretary of the Indian Embassy in Bonn, Germany.
After two and a half decades resigned and entered politics
After nearly two and a half decades, in 1984, Yashwant Sinha resigned from the Indian Administrative Service and entered politics. While starting the political innings, he joined the Janata Party in 1986 and was made the All India General Secretary of the party. Elected to Rajya Sabha member in 1988.
After the formation of the Janata Dal, in 1989, he was made the general secretary of the party. He held the post of Finance Minister in the Chandrashekhar government for one year from 1990 to 1991. After this, Sinha was the Finance Minister in the government of Atal Bihari Vajpayee from March 1998 to May 2002.
