The farmers of Punjab sitting on dharna have closed 18 highway toll plazas in nine districts of the state. It has 12 National Highway toll plazas, while 6 State Highway toll plazas. National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) says National Highway Toll Plaza (National Highway Toll Plaza Shut Down) Due to closure, it is losing revenue of Rs 1.33 crore every day.
How will it work like this?
According to NHAI, it has warned the Punjab government about the damage caused by the farmers’ protest. The authority says that due to the loss it is facing due to the closure of the toll plaza, there will be a problem in completing other future projects in the state. At the same time, it will also be difficult for him to maintain the existing National Highway network.
Toll plaza closed in these districts
Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee had closed 18 toll plazas in nine districts of the state two days back. Out of this National Highway toll plazas are in districts like Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur and Ferozepur. NHAI has to pay compensation in case the agency operating them does not get the toll.
Demonstration of farmers till 15 January
Farmers are protesting against the Bhagwant Mann government of the Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab. Apart from the minimum support price, farmers are on the road on issues like increasing wages under MNREGA, guarantee for alternative crops of paddy. This demonstration of the farmers is expected to continue till January 15.
