Increase in myoglobin in the body can lead to kidney failure and potassium level can also increase. An excessive amount of potassium in the body can lead to ventricular fibrillation. And it causes death.
Despite surviving the earthquake, why death after rescue?
The devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria took away the lives of thousands of people. Meanwhile, rescue and relief work is going on. India has also sent Army and NDRF teams to Turkey under Operation Dost. The rescue team has taken out the living people even after a week of the earthquake. On Friday, a 45-year-old man was rescued and found safe even after 12 days.
There were other people who survived the earthquake, who were buried under the debris for several days and were rescued, but despite the victory over death, they died within a few hours or days. Recently, International Search and Rescue had told about Zainab, who survived despite being buried under the debris for 100 hours, that her condition is fine. But he died within hours of being rescued.
Emergency doctor Bastian Herbst, associated with the aid organization ISAR, says that there can be many reasons for death after rescue. Told about Zainab that she was laughing while being taken to the hospital. Perhaps he would have suffered deep internal injuries, which the rescue team or doctors would not have been able to detect immediately. In such a situation, he died.
Other such incidents have also come to the fore, in which people were safely taken out from the debris, but despite the rescue, they could not survive for long.
In such a situation, the question is what are the causes of death after rescue?
1). hypothermia
Regarding rescue death, Dr. Herbst says that there can be many reasons for this, one of which is hypothermia. Due to the icy cold in the earthquake areas, the blood vessels of the people trapped in the debris must have shrunk. The constricted veins do not allow body heat to escape through the skin. In such a situation, the blood temperature drops in these parts of the body, whereas in other parts, movement of warm blood continues.
2). heart beat rate
Doctors tell that in the event of a disaster, sometimes abnormal heart rate also causes death. There are difficulties in immediate recovery when the heart rate becomes uncontrollable. Regarding Zainab’s death, Dr. Herbst says that the improvement in her condition was very complicated.
He says, “We had to shake his body a lot to loosen it. In such a situation, the veins of his blood would have opened and the cold blood accumulated there would have started reaching the center of the body. Because of this the heart rate must have become uncontrollable and abnormal and he died. Irregular and abnormal motion can prevent the heart from pumping blood to other parts of the body. This condition is especially dangerous for heart patients.
3). ventricular fibrillation
Dr Herbst explains that Zainab’s kidney must have failed along with abnormal heart rate. Due to this also there is a possibility of death. According to Herbst, Zainab’s feet were buried in stones and debris, which she was able to move, but there were other problems. It is possible that the tissues of his feet may have been destroyed and due to this the production of myoglobin protein has stopped.
In case of tissue injury, these proteins supply oxygen inside the muscle cells. Increase in myoglobin in the body can lead to kidney failure and potassium level can also increase. An excessive amount of potassium in the body can lead to ventricular fibrillation. And it causes death.
4). sudden loss of tension
Experts tell that when someone is trapped in a disaster, he is under a lot of stress. In the struggle to stay alive, they are facing a lot of stress. When the rescue team saves them, their stress suddenly reduces. This situation also weighs heavily on them.
Dr. Herbst says, “Especially in the case of accidents involving water vessels, it is seen that as soon as the victims see the rescue team, they start trying to prevent themselves from drowning.” In this way the stress hormone can maintain the movements of the body. When saved, these hormones go down and the communication system collapses.
