The name of these personalities who were awarded Padma Shri at Rashtrapati Bhavan is Swami Sivananda, who is 125 years old. 125-year-old Shivanand has won the hearts of people with his simple behavior. He has been honored with this award for the commendable work done regarding yoga. According to a report in Outlook, Swami Sivananda was born on 8 August 1896 in Sylhet, which is now in Bangladesh. Swami Sivananda’s childhood passed in poverty, as his parents died at the age of 6.
After the death of his parents, he came to his Guruji’s ashram in Nabadwip, West Bengal. Guru Omkarananda Goswami raised him, giving all practical and spiritual education including yoga without any schooling. According to the information given by Rashtrapati Bhavan regarding Padma awardees, now Swami Sivananda is serving the underprivileged in different parts of the country.

If we talk about the work done on his behalf, he has been serving 400-600 leprosy affected beggars personally by visiting their huts for the last 50 years. Swami Sivananda is asked to arrange various materials like food items, fruits, clothes, winter wear, blankets, mosquito nets, cooking utensils based on the needs of the people and he makes the arrangements.
Swami Sivananda was honored with various awards including the Yoga Ratna Award in Bengaluru in 2019 and was the country’s senior-most participant in the Yoga Demonstration on 21 June 2019, the World Yoga Day. Apart from this, on 30 November 2019, he was honored with the Vasundhara Ratan Award by Respect Age International for his contribution to the society. At the invitation of the disciples, he has visited more than 50 countries including England, Greece, France, Spain, Austria, Italy, Hungary, Russia, Poland, Ireland, Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, Bulgaria, UK.
