Pradeep Singh, an accused in the sacrilege case and a follower of Dera Sacha Sauda, has been shot dead in Punjab. The matter is of Faridkot. Pradeep Singh was accused of sacrilege in the Guru Granth Sahib case in 2015. This is not the first case of sacrilege. Last year on December 18, a youth entered the Darbar Sahib in Amritsar. He was beaten up and died. Not only this, in another case last year, a youth was accused of sacrilege and a demand was made to hang him.

What is sacrilege?
Disrespect means insult. When any religious symbol or object is insulted or tampered with, it is counted as sacrilege. Till now maximum number of cases have been reported in Punjab. This can be understood in three ways. In the case of Sikhs, three things are considered in the realm of sacrilege. For example, insulting the holy symbol of Sikhs. Damage to the place where Gru Granth Sahib is kept. Trying to change or misrepresent the teachings or knowledge given by the Sikh Guru is also called sacrilege.
What does the law say?

Many times in the last few years, the people of Punjab have also demanded to bring a strict law regarding this. IPC 295 in cases of sacrilege and 295A is entered under. Section 295A of IPC says, intentionally causing damage to Srimadbhavat Gita, Holy Quran, Bible, Guru Granth Sahib comes under the ambit of crime. The person doing this can be punished for 3 years. Along with this fine can also be imposed. Or both can be applied. The NCRB report says that between 2018 and 2020, the maximum number of sacrilege cases were reported in Punjab.
In 2018, there was talk of making changes in this law. It was said that by changing the law, the culprit should be punished from 10 to 20 years, although no concrete steps were taken regarding this proposal.
These cases of sacrilege were the most discussed
Some such cases of sacrilege also came in the country, which were discussed all over the country.
- 1970: Gurbachan Singh, the head of the Nirankari Mission, tried to change the tradition told by Guru Gobind Singh. It was counted in dishonesty. He was assassinated in 1980.
- 1984: The most talked-about case of sacrilege was called Operation Blue Star. It was only after Operation Blue Star that the former Prime Minister was assassinated.
- 2007: Gurmeet Ram Month dressed like Guru Gobind Singh. A case was also registered against Gurmeet in this case.
- 2015: There was sabotage with the Guru Granth Sahib in Faridkot. This matter became so much discussed that it was said that due to anger among the people, there was a change of power in the state.
