The Church of England in Britain is preparing to bring about a big change. Here it is being considered to change the thousands of years old funeral method. Along with the church, prominent people of the Christian community are planning to implement the process of decomposing or composting the dead body in water instead of burying it as a last rite. Arch Bishop Dotchipan says, some reluctance is necessary on the new methods of funeral, but there is some kind of misunderstanding about it.
He said, about a year ago the body of Archbishop Desmond Tutu of Cape Town was exhumed. Now it is being considered to adopt this method. Know, what is aquamation and why there is a preparation to implement it by changing the old method of funeral.
What is aquamation?
In some countries of the world, there is a practice of cremation through aquamation. If you understand in simple language, then the last rites in the water. In this method, the dead body is kept together in a cylinder containing alkali mixture like potassium hydroxide. The pressure is increased in this cylinder. The water is heated to 150 degree Celsius. After doing this only bones remain.
After the death of the body, the work of converting these remaining bones into ashes is done. This ash is given to the family and the water in which the body has expired is mixed with sewage. Although many water companies had opposed it in the initial phase, but it was allowed when DNA was not found in the water.
Why is the Christian community changing the tradition?
The Christian community is preparing to make this big change with the aim of keeping the environment safe. He says that he is preparing to adopt such a method keeping in mind the religious, practical and traditional view of the last rites.
Keeping in mind the environment in the world, many methods are being adopted. Apart from Aquamation, the method of Termination is also in practice. The dead body is converted into compost through termination.Eco-friendly method is adopted to convert human dead body into compost. Let’s go through the process of ‘Natural Organic Reduction’. Then the dead body is kept in a chamber. Wood chips, straw and organic mixture are put in it. Microorganisms present in organic mixture destroy the body. In this way, the dead body turns into fertile manure within a month. Experts believe that the human body is passed through such a process that the microorganisms that cause diseases are destroyed. This process is also called human compositing.
