Who were Hans and Dimbhaka?
Hans and Dimbhaka were the generals of Jarasandha, the king of Magadha in the Dwapar era. Jarasangh was the father-in-law of Mathura King Kansa. This was the reason that Jarasangh attacked Mathura on 17th year after Lord Krishna killed Kansa. Hans and Dimbhak played an important role in these attacks. To weaken Jarasandh, it was necessary to snatch both his generals. A special strategy was made for this.
According to Mohan Bhagwat, when Lord Krishna spread the rumor that Hans had been killed in battle, Dimbhaka committed suicide by jumping into the Yamuna river. Both the generals were very close. He said, people of such nature have existed since the time human civilization was born.
that’s why there is talk of death
During the 17th war between Shri Krishna and Jarasandh, Balram was challenged by Jarasandh’s commander. In the midst of the war, Shri Krishna made a strategy to win the war. At the behest of Krishna, the soldiers spread a rumor that the swan had been killed. Hearing this, Dimbhak drowned in sorrow. He was so upset that he committed suicide by jumping into Yamuna.

In this verse of Mahabharata, it has been told that what did Dimbhaka say when the news of Hans’s death spread. Before giving his life, Dimbhak says that without a swan, I cannot live in the world anymore. After saying this, he jumps into the Yamuna and dies.
Jarasangha gets disheartened after hearing the news of the death of both his generals and returns to his empire. Later Bhima kills Jarasandha during the wrestling match.
Were Hans and Dimbhak really gay?
There is no concrete information about whether Hans and Dimbhaka were homosexual or not, but the mention of their closeness is found in Ved Vyas’s Mahabharata. Many historians believe that the relationship between them was more than friends. In Mahabharata, the verse recorded in the 14th chapter of Sabhaparva about both of them tells how close they were.
However, how brave warriors both were, it was mentioned by Lord Krishna during the discussion with Yudhishthira. In one context Shri Krishna says, if the swan and the larva were alive, Jarasandh could have defeated all the three worlds. Many kings also know this thing.
