There is a lot of discussion on this issue after the demand for printing the picture of Lord Lakshmi and Ganesha of Hindu religion on Indian currency. People may not like the talk of religious symbols on Indian currency, but coins with religious symbols have come before.
A glimpse of a particular religion has been seen on the Indian currency in the past as well.
Indian currency is also in discussion these days. The reason for coming into the discussion is that recently Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had demanded that the pictures of Lakshmi-Ganesh ji should be printed on Indian currency notes. After this demand of Delhi CM, now discussions are being held regarding the use of religious symbols on the currency. Many people believe that the use of any religious symbol on the Indian currency is not right, while a section is also in support of it. Meanwhile, there is a lot of discussion about that note from Indonesia, on which the picture of Ganesh ji is printed.
Do you know that even today there is a dispute over this demand, but in the past also there has been a religious glimpse on the currency. Many such coins have been issued from time to time, on which symbols have been made according to every religion. So know that about these coins, on which the picture of gods and goddesses is already printed.
Let us tell you that memorial coins are issued by the Government of India on special occasions. Like on someone’s birth anniversary, centenary or centenary year some coins are issued and dedicated to a particular class or person. In this sequence, many times coins have been issued even while dedicating to a particular religion. Not only this, the court has also raised objections to these coins and has reprimanded the central government.
When did religion based coins come?
The government had issued such coins to make some events memorable. For example, in the year 2008, the coin was issued on the 300th anniversary of Gurta Gaddi of Guru Granth Sahib. After this, in the year 2010, a coin was issued on 1000 years of Brihadisvara temple. Coins were issued in the name of Mother Teresa in 2010, Saint Alphonsa in 2009 and Lord Mahavir in 2002. Along with this, you must have also seen coins of Vaishno Devi, which was issued in 2013. So it can be said that many times coins of particular religion have been issued.
Center has the right
Explain that the Center has the right to issue coins to celebrate any particular historical or religious event under the Coinage Act. The design of coins is the responsibility of the Central Government under Section 4 of the Coinage Act, 2011. The design of banknotes is governed by the provisions of section 25 of the RBI Act, 1934. In such a situation, RBI can make changes after consultation with the central government.
There has been enough opposition
Even before this, there has been a lot of opposition to the coins of religion. In 2014, the court had also asked the central government a question in this matter. Along with this, many people had strongly opposed the printing of religious symbols on coins and many petitions have also been filed.
