Ghalib was born 225 years ago in the Kala Mandir of Agra in a prosperous family. Born on 27 December 1797, Ghalib’s father came to India from Uzbekistan. Ghalib had a hold on Urdu, Persian and Turkish languages. It is said that he started writing at the age of 11. He also knew Hindi and Arabic.

Expensive and fond of English wine
Ghalib, who belonged to an affluent family, was married to a girl from a wealthy Delhi family. But personal life was not happy. Ghalib had 7 children but none lived for more than 2 years. Alcohol is considered haram in Islam, but Ghalib did not agree with it. He was fond of drinking alcohol all his life. No matter how tight the money was or for this hundreds of miles had to be covered, but the liquor was expensive and the English preferred to drink only.
When Namaz left the Masjid without getting alcohol
A day also came when he did not get alcohol. In such a situation, he turned towards the mosque for Namaz. His disciple was found there and he showed him the wine, he took the bottle and started coming out of the mosque. That’s why a person said, you left without offering Namaz? On this, Ghalib replied, the thing for which he had come to pray, got it just like that.
gambling addiction led to jail
Not only alcohol, he also had a bad addiction to gambling. For this he was also jailed for 6 months. He was a poet of the Mughal era. During his time, Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar used to rule in Delhi. Many times the emperor had even recommended Ghalib to be released from jail, but after a time, the prestige of the emperor started decreasing in front of the rising status of the British. That’s why many times the British used to ignore his words.
On 17 February 1869, the news of his death appeared in an Urdu newspaper. While he died on 15 February. That news had disappointed the lovers of lions and poetry.
