On December 9, Chinese soldiers tried to infiltrate into India in the Tawang sector of Arunachal Pradesh, which were chased away by the Indian soldiers. According to former army chief MM Naravane, Chinese army personnel have been making such efforts 4 to 5 times a year. Every time he had to face the Indian soldiers. Meanwhile, a video also went viral, in which Indian soldiers are seen driving them away with sticks and rods. Although this video is being told old.
In the past also many such videos have gone viral, in which soldiers from both sides are seen scuffling or fighting with sticks. A question arises in the minds of common people that when dangerous weapons like aircraft, ballistic missiles are stationed on the border and our army is equipped with guns, ammunition and state-of-the-art weapons… then why doesn’t the Chinese soldiers attack with them only? The other aspect of this is that even Chinese soldiers do not fire with ammunition. But why so?
Agreement between India and China
The reason behind fighting with melee or sticks and not using ammunition on the India-China border is the agreement between the two countries. This agreement was signed on November 29, 1996. in New Delhi. Agreement between the Government of the Republic of India and China on ‘Confidence Measures in the Military Field Along the LAC in India-China Border Areas’. That is, the agreement between the two countries for confidence-building measures in the LAC area in the India-China border areas.
What is in this agreement?
Under Article 6 of the agreement, it has been said that neither India nor China will fire up to a range of two kilometers of the LAC. Neither will anyone use any dangerous chemical, nor will anyone explode a bomb, nor will any other weapon activity. However, this restriction does not apply to routine firing for military exercises at small arms firing ranges.
The second point of Article 6 is regarding blasting by giving information for development works. For example, blasting is required in the mountain even for the construction of a road, so it should be done by telling the country in front. So that there is no confusion or misunderstanding of war. Under this, if blasting is to be done within 2 km of LAC, then it is necessary to be told through border personal meeting or any other diplomatic channel. Better to tell 5 days in advance.
