Pradeep Bakshi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Voltas said that in April 2022, the AC industry has seen phenomenal growth in terms of sales as compared to the previous year. He said that this time the sales have increased by more than 100 percent due to heat and low base of sales due to extreme heat and lower base effect of last year.

Panasonic sold more than 1 lakh ACs

Panasonic India Business Head Gaurav Sah said the company has registered record demand this year and sold over one lakh ACs during April. He said that they are seeing record demand for air conditioners. Panasonic India sold over 1,00,000 units in this April, an increase of 83 per cent over April 2021 and 67 per cent over April 2019.

Apart from this, the sales of Johnson Controls-Hitachi Air Conditioning India, which sells ACs under the Hitachi brand name, have more than doubled in the last month compared to April 2021. The company expects a record sales of Rs 1,500 crore during the peak summer season in this category.

However, on one hand the demand is picking up, on the other hand the problem of supply side still persists. Many parts used in making AC are not available. Fresh lockdowns have been imposed in China, due to which the component has become expensive. Its effect is visible on the price. Rising prices are a matter of concern for the companies.
