Despite millions of criticisms from the world, India has defended the decision to buy oil from Russia. India says that wherever it gets cheap oil, it will buy it. Many countries of the West, including America, question this decision of India, but India is continuously increasing oil purchases from Russia. Last week, Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri told CNN in Abu Dhabi, Russian oil purchases were 0.2 percent (of all oil imported by India) in fiscal year 2012 (April 2021 to March 2022). We still only buy a quarter of the oil that Europe buys in an afternoon. We have a moral duty towards our consumers. We have a population of 1.34 billion and we have to ensure that energy is supplied to them, be it petrol or diesel.
