Every year many employees change jobs for better salary. While doing so, those who are part of the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) scheme and Employees Pension Scheme (EPS) should also take care of transferring the amount from the old EPF account to the new employer. However, many employees do not know that they should also obtain an EPS certificate from the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO).
Why is EPS certificate necessary?
According to the EPF Act, an employee should take the EPS certificate requirement at the time of leaving the job or exiting the EPF scheme. However, people do not follow it strictly. It is suggested that the employees should take the EPS Scheme Certificate so that they have a record of the period of service for which they will get pension.
Its need can be understood from another example as well. Suppose an employee changes jobs and his new employer is not covered under the EPF scheme. In such a situation, having the pension scheme certificate related to the old EPF account will help. This will serve as proof in your pension claim.
