In Delhi, the Kejriwal government has completed the installation of 1000 Electric Vehicle (EV) charging points in less than a year under the single window facility. This includes 682 charging points at 315 locations by BSES Rajdhani Power Limited, 150 charging points at 70 locations by BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) and 168 charging points at 50 locations by Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL). Of these, 59 per cent chargers are installed by RWAs, 15 per cent in office premises and 13 per cent in e-rickshaw parking. Delhi government will spend a total of Rs 60 lakh as subsidy on these 1000 charging points.
Single window facility was started in 2021
In November 2021, the Kejriwal government started a single window facility for installation of EV chargers in private and semi-public places in Delhi. Under this, residential places like apartments and group housing societies, institutional buildings like hospitals and commercial places like grocery stores, shops and malls can take advantage of this facility. Through this facility, any resident of Delhi can request the empaneled vendors to install the charger in his/her premises through the online portal of the Discom or by calling.
Customers can also apply for a separate electricity connection with a specific EV tariff. The single window facility enables any resident in Delhi to select, order, install and pay (net of subsidy) EV chargers from empaneled vendors through their electricity provider (discom) portal. There are 3 electricity providers in Delhi, namely BRPL, BYPL and TPDDL.
Subsidy is available under the scheme
The Delhi EV policy provides for a subsidy of Rs 6000 per charging point for the first 30,000 slow charging points. After the subsidy of Rs 6,000, the payment made by the users includes EV charger, installation and maintenance cost for 3 years. After subsidy, the total cost of these EV chargers is only Rs 2,500.
Under the single window process, the Delhi government, through discoms, has empaneled around 10 vendors to help citizens choose from various EV chargers. Slow and Moderate charger is installed by the vendor within 7 working days of submission of request for installation of EV charger.
Single window service enables citizens to choose a reliable EV charger from a single online platform by comparing prices and features of different chargers. Once the request is submitted with the DISCOM, the empaneled agency, whose EV charger has been selected, contacts the consumer for site inspection. If the site is found to be viable, the EV charger is installed on a date mutually agreed upon by the agency.
