The government on Wednesday promised to give free food grains to the poor. Prime Minister Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana The period has been extended by three months i.e. till December, 2022. It will cost Rs 44,700 crore. It is believed that apart from giving some relief to the poor from inflation, this decision has been taken in view of the Gujarat Assembly elections. Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur told reporters after the cabinet meeting that the scheme was ending on Friday. It has been extended from October to December, 2022. Under the scheme, 80 crore poor are given five kg of wheat and rice every month.
The Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana was introduced in April, 2020 to provide relief to the poor affected by the nationwide lockdown for the prevention of corona virus epidemic.

Benefits of PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana
Under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, 5 kg of food grains per person will be given free of cost to the beneficiaries every month. Under the National Food Security Act, free ration facilities are being provided to the poor people of the country. Under Phase 7, free ration is being provided for the next three months. This was announced on Wednesday. The decision to distribute free ration was taken in the meeting chaired by the Prime Minister. For this scheme, the government will give a subsidy of Rs 44,762 crore as an estimate. An estimated 122 lakh metric tonnes of food grains will be distributed under this scheme.

Cabinet Minister Anurag Thakur informed about the decision of free ration. Along with this, the dearness allowance of government employees has also been increased by 4 percent. Its decision was also taken in Wednesday’s cabinet meeting. This decision will directly benefit 50 lakh employees and 62 lakh pensioners. The government announces dearness allowance in January and July. Accordingly, the benefit of 4% increased DA will be added from July 1.
