The number of ‘gig’ workers working on fixed payments for a fixed period in the country is expected to increase to 11 million by the year 2025. This estimate has been expressed in a report released on Wednesday. According to a report by global job online platform Indeed, more and more companies are preferring to hire employees on a project basis, which is likely to increase the number of gig workers.
Why will jobs increase in this sector?
According to the report, the economy has been one of the most important economic changes in a long time and the reason why people are choosing gig jobs is because it matches their lifestyle. Gig workers are paid by companies on the basis of work. With this people can also choose when and how much work they want to do.
The report states that companies have also started investing in gig employee platforms and processes. This shows how confident the companies are about the future of job growth in India. About 58 percent of the employers involved in this survey believe that by the year 2025, the number of gig workers can increase from 9 million to 11 million. Even some companies are expected to cross this figure.
Shashi Kumar, Head of Sales, Indeed India, said that the sector has been formalized to some extent with the introduction of mobile apps for many tasks related to supplies and home services. He told that in the coming years, we expect this sector to grow very fast.
Who are gig workers?
Such works which are not done for a long time are called gig jobs. Like ride sharing service, designing the interior of someone’s house, giving coaching, giving fitness training, many more like this.
Traditionally, this term was used for musicians, who used to go somewhere and give performances. Because it used to be a few hours’ work. But now it is used for people engaged in all the work mentioned above.
